Dam Site 13
192nd and Blondo Streets
Omaha, Nebraska
|
This project consisted of constructing an earth embankment dam across a tributary of the West Papillion Creek just northwest of West Dodge Road at 192nd Street. The dam is approximately 40 feet high, 300 feet wide and 1,300 feet long while comprising a 58 acre site. It was NRD’s first new public reservoir built this decade. The geotechnical exploration in 2005 by TG consisted of test borings to obtain geologic information and samples of the site soils, and laboratory tests to determine the relevant engineering properties of the various soil strata. Instrumentation was installed to measure settlement and water levels. The flood control dam and surrounding recreation areas were built through a combination partnership between the NRD, City of Omaha and Dial Development Corporation.
